Over 40 people, including club members and guests, welcomed 10 Japanese student visitors at a BBQ held at the condo of President Rod Verduyn.

The students were treated to typical Canadian BBQ fare of burgers and dogs, salads, watermelon, cake and icecream.  Grill masters Chris Markle and David Ing did an admirable job and other club members, such as fellow residents at the condo Jim and Dianne Moore, pitched in to help with organizing, serving and cleaning up following the celebration.

The students each made presentations in English that told their personal stories following the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.  Rotarians and guests were deeply moved by these accounts and by the courage demonstrated by each student in moving forward in their lives and sharing their experiences with others.

The students will be in Ontario for about 2 weeks.  They are attending English classes, taking in a Bluejays game, visiting tourist attractions such as Niagara Falls, and experiencing some time at an Ontario summer camp.  All Rotarians in our club are invited to the going away celebration on August 17th at the home of James and Chako.
