"Support Our Kids" is a 10 year project that supports students affected by the Tohoku Earthquake in Japan.  The goal of the project is to support children affected by the earthquake and tsunami so that they can become leaders of the restoration and recovery of their home areas.

These students have experienced loss of family members, living in temporary housing, and economic and psychological instability. Many still live in anxiety and fear for the future. By providing an opportunity to experience different environments and to meet new people, the hope is that the children will learn to think and act independently and will be proud of who they are and where they are from.  Through continuous support, they will become leaders of the recovery - and of the future - in their home area.

Students supported by this initiative are provided the opportunity to visit other countries such as the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and New Zealand to experience homestays that allow them to learn about the cultures in these countries.  As well, many children will have the opportunity for an "Embassy Tour" in Belgium, New Zealand, Canada and the U.K.

10 students arrived in Toronto on August 5th and were welcomed at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Center by members of Shinki-Kai as well as members of the Rotary Club of Toronto - Forest Hill.  They will spend 2 weeks in Ontario, both in Toronto and at Ontario summer camps.  The Rotary Club of Toronto - Forest Hill will welcome them to a club meeting and BBQ on August 8, and members of the club will join the farewell celebration on August 17.  Our club is proud to have supported many fundraising initiatives in support of students affected by the tsunami and looks forward to engaging with these visiting students.

All members of our club are encouraged to join in these activities in support of the visiting students!
