Eric Domville, a volunteer speaker with the Canadian Opera Company visited our Club on the evening of Feb. 28/13 to provide an expert overview of opera at an introductory level. Eric supplemented his speech with a recording of a famous selection from Rigoletto.

Speaker's Bio
Eric Domville is a professor Emeritus of English at the University of Toronto, where he taught for thirty years, especially in the literature of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. His main research interest was in the life and works of the Irish Poet W. B. Yeats. In this field he published both with Oxford and Cornell University Presses. Since his retirement he has concentrated on the relationships between words and music. He has co-taught courses in song and opera in the Faculty of Music and the Glenn Gould School. He also gives pre-performance talks for the Canadian Opera Company and Opera Atelier. Twice a year he presents courses in opera and also in literature in the Continuing Education Division of St Michaels College at U of T.
